Mesa Bar Totem

As functional as it is decorative. The dictionary definition of a Totem is an iconic piece or special symbol. The new Sancal Totem maintains the ancient symbolism of an icon that conveys balance and creativity. But what is it really? It is a sophisticated bar stool and variety of tables, a clean design with which its author wanted to escape from conventional forms and explore a new design language. The Totem's sculptural curves are surprising and its graphic silhouette reveals the designer's talent for illustration, transcending its function to become a decorative object. The apparently slender and delicate structure is, in fact, strong and resistant. Its wide base seems to stabilize a fragile balance of straight lines and a circle to center ring, as well as providing a flattering silhouette, it serves as a footrest for the stool. Reduced to its essentials, the seat remains comfortable without breaking the illusion of a two-dimensional design. After the stool, the Totem's evolution into a versatile family of desks and occasional tables was logical. The variety of heights and diameters available extend their functionality and allow them to be used for such diverse uses as: coffee table or bedside table, dining table, high cocktail table and even a medium height conference table, which can be accompanied by a plush armchair.
