The etymological root of the word Diwan had a long journey from India to Persia, through the Ottoman Empire and throughout the Maghreb: the diwan was the “ambassador's room” where royalty received foreign dignitaries. As a mark of appreciation, these guests were entertained with all manner of luxuries, one of which was to recline comfortably to trade. Thus, in Europe, the word divan refers to a long padded seat, usually without a back for lying down. The Arab heritage of the city of Valencia inspired PerezOchando to design a contemporary Diwan. The range includes a chaise longue, as well as modular benches and an original armchair. Claudia and Pedro have reduced the sinuous curves of the seats and backrests to a minimum, bringing an air of lightness to the design. Available in natural or stained wood and can be combined with the upholstery. Designed for sitting rather than lounging, it has a higher seat height than the divan.
